The home of Sporting Kansas City is one of the region’s landmark sports venues and remains a showcase of innovative structural and architectural design. The stadium earned the 2011 Excellence in Structural Engineering Award (New Buildings Over $100 Million) from the Structural Engineers Association of Kansas & Missouri (SEAKM).
The 18,500-seat venue features:
- 145,000-square-foot canopy system
- Clear polycarbonate roof allowing natural sunlight to reach the playing surface
- 36 luxury suites on two levels
- Two-story owner’s suite
- Multi-use design for MLS, rugby, lacrosse, concerts and special events
- Delivered under an accelerated 22-month design and construction schedule
JEI’s Role
JEI Structural provided specialty façade engineering services for the stadium’s building envelope systems by delivering structural engineering calculations supporting the project’s glass and glazing assemblies.
Working collaboratively with the glazing contractor, architect, structural engineer and project team, JEI helped verify that the glazing systems met structural performance requirements for wind loading, building movement and code compliance while supporting efficient project execution.
