The 1-year-old bear picked up a stone from the bottom of his enclosure and smashed the glass, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”-style. The zoo’s director said that Vicks didn’t break the glass on purpose, but “he liked what was happening.” Vicks has been placed on “house arrest” and relocated to another (rock-free?) tank until his permanent home can be repaired. Replacing the glass, which is five panes thick, will cost $125,000. We think that’s money well-spent.
